These drawer-only cabinets from Ikea would be ideal in a mobile tiny house, as they could easily be locked shut. You could use drawer dividers (also available at Ikea) to keep things from flying around during transport. Note: countertop is sold separately.
In a few spare moments over the past few days, I mocked up in masking tape my current favorite floorplan. As you can see, the bathroom is at the far end (hitch end), there’s a porch with an outward-opening door, the kitchen is along the right-hand side (passenger side), and the living room is the area with the chair.
The area between the living area and the bathroom is also open and part of the living room, but the ceiling is lower there due to the loft.
My next step is to get this mocked up in SketchUp.
Kitchen: Along a long wall of the house. Having the kitchen isolated at the end is no fun. Need to keep the counters narrow so the living room doesn’t get squeezed too much. Big window over the counters add a lot of light, but this has to be balanced against storage space, which is limited in most designs I’ve seen.
Bathroom: along the hitch (short) wall of the house, under the loft. Toilet, tiny sink, shower stall. Sliding (pocket) restroom door. Nice to have the bathroom as far from the kitchen as possible.
Storage: Under loft area, in front of bathroom (1 or 2 closets). Additional storage in front loft (?) and next to mattress in sleeping loft.
Porch: Adds a lot to the curb appeal of the house, making it look less like a camper. Takes of a lot of space on the trailer, though.
Table: Something that folds out from the wall in the living room, or otherwise stows away when not in use.
I have a paper sketch and will add these ideas to my Google Sketchup layout when I get a chance.
These mini-kitchen units (like the last post, from YesterTec) are crazy expensive and crazy awesome.
These “stealth kitchen modules” are crazy expensive but certainly stay out of the way when you don’t want your kitchen looking like a kitchen.
Not a fan of this exterior style, but this interior is seriously stylin’. Amazing how the tiny house community combines weird taste with amazing craftsmanship.
I like the idea of a kitchen like this running the full length of the living room, like in the floorplan a few posts back.
This is the most gorgeous interior I’ve seen on a tiny house. Love the trim and the light colors - full of light.
